It was a foggy morning as we departed from Narrabri this morning. A few kilometres out of Narrabri, the fog disappeared and we noticed a white line of paint, clearly not meant to be on the road, may be from a road-marking truck that had sprung a leak. We made our way through the Mt Kaptur lower mountains, following the spilt paint. The weather improved and at one time the temperature was up to 14 degrees. Passing through the small town of Bingara, Rob noticed a sign “Award Winning Pies”, and I noticed the beautiful heritage buildings….we were both happy. Rob purchased his sausage roll and we went for a stroll down the main street so I could enjoy the buildings. We didn’t intend to have a coffee but I was desperate to see inside a magnificent heritage listed milk-bar/cafĂ© attached to “The Roxy” theatre so we venture in there and had a coffee. It had all the original features of the 1930s-40s milk bar with terrazzo floors, chrome, red and green laminate, open timber display cabinets etc. We continued following the splash paint line and stopped at Inverell for lunch. About 10 kms out of Inverell the paint finally ran out. Rob estimates the paint line went for over more than 175 kms. We arrived at Glen Innes in the mid-afternoon and the temperature had dropped to 6 degrees. The wind chill factor made it seem like 2! We were told that it had snowed in some parts around this area. The maximum for tomorrow will be 6 but we are travelling to Grafton so it shouldn’t bother us.
