Day 17 Thursday 11th Nyngan, Kayaking and Golf in the Fog followed by Mud Larking

This morning there was a thick fog surrounding us when we awoke. I was determined to kayak in the Bogan River and so the fog (and cold) was not going to deter me. We waited awhile for the fog to lift a little before Rob assisted me to put the kayak in. We could launch from the caravan park. Rob then drove to Nyngan Golf Club. My kayak was lovely despite the fog. The water was calm and the birdlife brilliant although not conducive for taking good photos. At one spot, the river ran alongside the golf course and I did look out for Rob but didn’t see him. We returned to the caravan park around a similar time as Rob decided to only play 9 holes due to the course being very wet. In the afternoon we visited the local museum, located in the old Nyngan railway station. It was very comprehensive and there were many rooms filled with all sorts of local history. We enjoyed spending time in the small theatre there, watching a short movie about the Nyngan, 1990 flood. Most of the town had to be evacuated during this flood. I paid a short visit to the local cemetery before we headed started to head to a viewing platform to see a nearby, large solar farm.  Google directed us onto a side road which looked fine but the vehicle was soon slipping and sliding all over the place. Rob tried really hard to rectify the situation be alas we were soon bogged. Rob had just started to let the tires down and dig us out when a young man in a 4xW drive pulled up and asked us if we needed help. He hopped out of his vehicle and was bare-footed which considering the wet, heavy, sticky, red clay that we were surrounded by, was probably a good idea. He reversed his vehicle in and managed to pull us out. Needless to say we were very grateful. Now we had a car covered in red, clay mud. We had mud inside too as Rob in his efforts to get us out of the predicament, had started reversing the vehicle while his door was open so he could keep an eye on the rear wheels. Our shoes were caked in the mud as well. We gave up on the idea of venturing to the solar farm and returned to the Nyngan car wash to wash the mud off everything!
