Day 18 Friday 12th Narrabri, More Mud and lots of Water

We said goodbye to Nyngan and set off for our next destination, Narrabri. Most of the roads we would be travelling on would be minor ones so we expected that the drive would not be a speedy one. We stopped at a small town called Coonamble where Rob may have purchased a sausage roll. I visited the nearby, beautiful, new Tourist Information Centre and spent quite a lot of time looking at all the wonderful displays. Coonamble was added to the list of towns we should visit and spend time in, in the future if possible. We continued on, stopping at Pilliga for lunch. The roads up until now had been very patchy with many holes and rough edges. The recent rain events in this area had badly affected the road surfaces and any side dirt roads were just a quagmire. As we continued on towards Narrabri we encountered many “floodways” and small creek crossings which of course had plenty of water in them. It was a little exciting and at least the underside of the vehicle received a wash after yesterday’s mud bath. After settling in at Narrabri, we visited the Tourist Information Centre to make some plans for our stay here.

I spoke to the driver of this truck. The racing yacht comes from Melbourne and he is taking it to Arlie Beach for a week long Comp, Then they sail to Hamilton Island for a week for another comp, then back to Melbourne. Once he drops this one off he is driving back to Melbourne to get a second one, repeat! He said the owners do it each year. Obviously short of $$$
