Leaving Mirani, we headed back the way we had come as we were now wandering our way south. This meant we once again passed through the very busy cane-fields area. We were stopped at several railroad crossings as cane trains traversed across the roads. We came to one crossing and once again we stopped at the red flashing signals and waited and waited and waited. No train! We crossed the tracks while the lights were flashing and then I noticed a number to call to report faults so I did this. We continued on, arriving in Mount Morgan in the afternoon. Mount Morgan is located in a mountain range and was once a thriving gold mining town. In 1900 the mine was one of the largest in the world. The mine ceased operating in the 1980’s but the mining company operating here now, is dredging the water and going through the tailings to extract more gold. There are many historical sites in the town and we are hoping to explore more of the town tomorrow. The caravan park is really quirky with many old relics from both the agriculture, mining and general living decorating the park.
