Day 55 Sunday 18th Mirani Caravan, Park Playful Platypuses and Serene Settings

As we were only travelling a short distance today, we did a few loads of washing and I cut Rob’s hair, before leaving Finch Hatton. Mirani was only a 25 minute drive down the road. We stayed in the lovely park here, last year and wanted to return. A beautiful park, with slabs and grassed sites, power and water for only $25 a night. The amenities are immaculate. We set up quickly and did a quick trip to the nearby town of Marian because there was a craft market there. Returning to the van we had lunch and headed out to the nearby Kinchant Dam. It had been a busy weekend out at the dam with boat–racing etc. By the time we arrived all the action had finished and although it was still busy, people were packing up. The water looked amazing as once again we had perfect weather, warm temperatures and no wind. Returning to Mirani, I went for a relaxing and beautiful kayak on the nearby Pioneer River. I saw many turtles, a beautiful, large bearded dragon, lots of birds and a snake! The snake was about 1 metre long and I saw it swimming across the river. I watched it slither amongst the water weed before I started heading back to Platypus Beach, the spot where Rob had dropped me off. Here I was lucky enough to spot several platypuses in the river. Before I left for this adventure on the river, Rob and I had met a lovely lady who was also staying at the park. She and her husband were from Lockleys and it was clear we had much in common. I had said to Rob to come back to Platypus Beach around 5pm and bring some nibbles and a drink. When I returned to the beach Rob was there, with seats and drinks in hand and so was the other couple. We spent about an hour at this serene location, overlooking the river and chatting to our new acquaintances as the sun set and the moon rose.
