Even though we knew the rain was coming and there was nothing we could do about it, we don’t need to enjoy it do we? The positive thing about the predictions of rain in Queensland, is that we are not travelling in the area where flooding is expected. The rain started at Tannum Sands around mid-night. Rob had a difficult morning packing up the outside things of the van. He was soaked through and had to change before we took off. The rain eased for a little while and we made the journey to our new abode. Initially we wanted to stop at a little bakery in Calliope but upon arriving there we found it was closed for the public holiday (Show Day) in Qld. The funny thing about this holiday is that it was not a holiday further inland. We noticed children at schools and shops open in other small towns. Who knows? Anyway we did stop at the Rise Bakery in Biloela for coffee, a sausage roll and some finger buns and scones. We visited this bakery last year and it really is one of the best in Queensland. We arrived at our new Caravan Park at Callide Dam around midday. It is listed as a retreat on the lake but I think the description is a bit of a stretch. Yes the lake is next to the park but we can’t see it. Nearby is a huge power-station and also a coal mine. Not really as attractive as I thought it would be. Anyway, we went for a drive around the dam and discovered some historic spots like the site of an old hotel and graves as well as checking out the huge power station(s) and coal mine. Returning to the caravan park, I decided to go with a walk down to the dam. Luckily I had taken the umbrella as the heavens opened once more! We are booked in here for three nights and the rain is predicted to continue so we might have to find some alternative activities.
