Day 48 Sunday 11th Tannum Sands Discovery Park, Not Suitable for Trucks, Caravans, Trailers!

This morning we departed Lake Redbrook bound for a small inland town called Monto. We had booked this caravan park because it was about half way between Lake Redbrook and our next destination and it was another little town that we had not visited before. Although it was meant to rain today we seemed to have avoided the showers. All was going well and we called into the delightful little town of Gin Gin for coffee before things started to go a little astray. Google maps told us to turn onto a road which we did. A short way down the road there was a sign warning caution about the road due to narrowness, steepness etc. It also said the road was not suitable for caravans. We turned backed to the main road we had been on and google maps then rerouted us to another steep and narrow road that caravans could travel on but only with caution. Rob did a great job driving through the very steep mountainous terrain. Once we’d successfully navigated this road, we stopped for lunch at a T-junction in the road. Our journey was taking us a lot longer than we had anticipated. As I was preparing lunch I saw another sign on the road we were to turn on to, next. Once again it was a “not suitable for caravans” road! This was becoming crazy. Rob called the Monto Caravan Park. Once they worked out where we were, they said there was no way we should take a caravan on the road suggested by google. For us to take a suitable road, we would have had to back-track on the steep road we’d just driven down. Anyway after chatting to the caravan park manager we explained that we would head to Gladstone for the night and would visit Monto another time. They were very kind and gave us a full refund as I had booked the park online and had prepaid. I then phoned several caravan parks around Gladstone and Tannum Sands. The first 3 were booked out as it was a long-weekend in Queensland but we finally managed to get into a park which had a non-powered site available. What a funny day.

Sorry, no photos today!!!
