One of the reasons we were staying in this beautiful, peaceful Eco camp was that I was hoping to go kayaking in the river area, where we had done the boat tour with Pat on Sunday. Unfortunately, the wind was up this morning and so it would be very difficult to reach the river by kayaking via the lake as the wind had whipped up white caps and it was very rough. Instead Rob had checked out the route to Harry’s Hut on the river, using roads and a rough 4 wheel drive track. We packed a picnic lunch and headed out. The last 15km were along a very rough track but Rob managed very well. After arriving at Harry’s Hut camping area, we tried to find a good spot for me to launch the kayak. A teacher who was supervising a large group of students who were camping and kayaking, suggested an area that was an easier option for launching and it worked well. The good news was that I didn’t fall in! The strong wind was still whipping down the river so I had to work extremely hard for the first 40 minutes or so to ensure I didn’t go backwards. Finally I reached the beautiful, sheltered, calm area of the river where I could relax and enjoy the magnificent scenery. Here, is the area where the river virtually becomes a mirror. I spent as long as I could in this area before I thought Rob might start worrying as to where I might be and so headed back. The return journey was much easier due to the wind assisting me. Rob had been out walking and also chatting to a teacher who was supervising some year 9 girls who had been doing some very long walks and camping out over the past few days, with their fully packed gear. Today the girls had a short walk and a rest day. We enjoyed our picnic lunch before taking the journey back to our park. We finished the day with a lovely dinner at the Coothara Bar and Bistro which is onsite.
