Another short journey for us today meant that we had time to visit some nearby beauty spots. We had read that at the Hinze Dam, you were able to walk across the dam wall and that there was a very popular lakeside café. The walk was long, nearly 5km there and back. The weather was kind to us and we enjoyed the walk along with many other people who apparently like to do the walk as a fitness activity. Of course we needed to visit the popular café for coffee and maybe a treat, following our walk. It certainly was busy! Clearly locals come here as well as workers, tradies etc. Reading a little about the dam, we discovered that the small town we had spent the night in, Advancetown, was originally situated in an area that is now under the water. The town was relocated to its new location in 1977. Several historic buildings were relocated to the new site. We enjoyed our stop and were finally on our way to our next destination, Beaudesert, located in the “Scenic Rim” area. More mountains for Rob to tackle with the van but as usual he did it easily. The “Scenic Rim” is described as a thriving rural paradise in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range and surrounded by World Heritage National Parks. On our drive, we saw numerous turf farms, livestock properties, horse training and agistment properties, vineyards etc. etc. Once we had set up in Beaudesert, we drove out to a nearby lake/dam called Wyaralong. This lake is used for rowing and there was a permanent rowing course laid out on the water. The area also had a sculpture park and lovely picnic facilities. We walked around the sculpture park and enjoyed the area for an hour or so before heading back to the van.
