An easy drive of about 2 and ½ hours, with a short stop in Maryborough for cheap fuel and coffee, brought us to our next destination close to Rainbow Beach. We had visited Rainbow Beach a few weeks ago and had wanted to try to actually stay near this spot to explore a little more. We are very happy with the location of the tourist park as it is a few kilometres from the town of Rainbow Beach and located on the inlet area of the Great Sandy Strait, rather than on the more exposed area of Rainbow Beach which faces the Coral Sea. I may kayak in the bay/inlet tomorrow at high tide if the weather is kind to me. The tourist park is magnificent and being a weekend, is very busy with many people coming into the various villas, cabins, caravan and camping sites and setting up ready to enjoy the weekend. We went for a short drive out to Inskip Point and could not believe the number of people camping in the allocated areas. The sites have to be booked through the Queensland National Parks. We saw hundreds of caravans, camper-trailers and tents all jammed into the sites along the point. The sites offer “long-drop” toilets and that’s all so we decided that we were more than happy to be where we are (even at the price we’re paying) rather than jammed out there. The sites are sheltered but very close to the beach and the nearby island of K’gari (Fraser Island), can be seen from the beach. It was quite rough when we wandered down to the beach but there were a few brave souls out beach fishing. Back at our park, the inlet was beautiful and calm. We decided to have a Thai dinner as there was a “Street Thai Food” truck visiting the tourist park tonight so I’m really looking forward to dinner!
