Day 10 Thursday 4th Tumut, Gateway to the Snowy Mountains!!

We really are heading north to escape the cold but we still are thoroughly enjoying exploring small town we have not visited before. Following an easy drive, stopping at Wagga Wagga to go to the Chemist, we arrived at Tumut. The last 60 or so kilometres started to become a little steep but nothing too bad. Once again we have been very fortunate. I booked our powered site online and we have scored a spot right on the banks of the beautiful Tumut River.

After lunch we visited the Tumut Information centre and then drove to a little town not far down the road, called Adelong. Adelong is an old gold mining town and so we ventured out to explore the Adelong Falls and Gold Mill Ruins, located in a beautiful gorge. There were various information boards about the history of gold mining in this area (1857-1916) and the stone ruins of the Refer quartz crushing mill at the falls have been declared heritage listed and marked by Engineers Australia. We returned to the small town of Adelong and did a quick heritage walk along the main street which was full of old buildings from the gold era.
